Facts and Questions

Do you only train pastors?

No. In an average year, about half of our students are studying for vocational purposes (e.g. to become a pastor, chaplain, youth worker, missionary etc.) and the other half are primarily studying to gain a deeper understanding of the Christian faith and to prepare themselves to be more effective members of a local church or service organization.

Is it true that theological studies weaken people's faith?

To the contrary, your time at Vose Seminary should strengthen and deepen your faith. That doesn't mean that your faith will never be challenged or that your thinking won't change. But as a result of your studies your faith should be more mature, stronger and better informed.

I've never been a very good student. Does the Seminary have anything to offer me?
-OR-
I'm an outstanding student, does the Seminary have anything to offer me?

Students come to the Seminary with differing academic abilities. We are small enough to pay individual attention to the needs of each student, yet large enough to offer awards to meet the needs of a wide range of abilities. Thus we offer qualifications starting at the Certificate level and going on to the Postgraduate level. The Academic Dean will help you to select a programme of study suited to your goals and ability.

I'm not able to study fulltime...

No problem! Over half of our students are studying on a part time basis.

I really don't have enough money to pay fees...

The generous subsidy from the Baptist Churches of Western Australia, plus the donations of friends of the Seminary, means that student fees make up less than half of the Seminary's income. Australian citizens and residents are able to make use of Fee Help - a low interest loan from the Commonwealth Govt. to enable students to pay their fees.

I can start studying now, but will be moving out of Perth before I have a chance to finish my qualification...

The Seminary is a member of the Australian College of Theology (ACT). All units passed in ACT affiliated programmes will be recognised by all other ACT Colleges, making it possible to start the degree in Perth, and complete it in, for example, Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane. Some ACT member colleges also offer distance education, which allows for even greater flexibility if required.
